BBE actively promotes and supports the preservation, protection, and enhancement of land and water in their natural, historical, agricultural, forested, or open space conditions. Our focus extends to the implementation of Blue and Green Infrastructure to sustain and enrich these environments for future generations.

Chesapeake Bay Trust Community-Based Organization Capacity Building Initiative

Through the CBO-CBI, the partners RR & Associates, the Chesapeake Bay Trust (Trust), the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and the Environment (MDE), with funding provided by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), aim to bridge the resource gap between mainstream established organizations and community-based organizations and partners and build the capacity of community-based organizations.

We Care and Friends "School On Water" Environmental and Outdoor Education Camp

School on Water is an environmental and outdoor education summer camp in partnership with We Care and Friends located at the Stanton Center in the Clay Street area of downtown Annapolis. This project was implemented to engage underserved youth in actionable science, civic engagement, green career development, and experiential learning by visiting environmental education centers all around the state of Maryland. This program was made possible for youth whose parents were clients of We Care and Friends which is a local nonprofit that services citizens in between housing, and battling drug addiction. The program was offered to the youth for free and provided meals and transportation.

The Reverend Samuel Green Sr. Foundation Chesapeake Bay Trust Urban Tree Grant "Annapolis Gardens Environmental Justice Tornado Restoration Project"

Thanks to an Urban Tree Planting grant from Chesapeake Bay Trust, written and facilitated by BBE, the Rev. Samuel Green Sr. Foundation in collaboration with residents, management, and community partners, hosted an urban tree planting event that took place Saturday, December 2 at the Annapolis Gardens Community, a subsidized housing community that is still recovering from a tornado that struck their community in 2021, making it an environmental justice community. This event represents efforts to address environmental sustainability problems of this community which includes a recent assessment that indicated 33 of 46 rain gardens installed at Annapolis Gardens failed the inspection. Community residents also raised concerns about large trees covering their windows and the removal of invasive species at 11 sites on the properties.
